A Fun Christmas Present Quilt

This year, I keep seeing so many Christmas Present quilts or quilt blocks and it has really made me want to come up with my own idea. One night, I was laying in bed and about to fall asleep when a Christmas Present Block hopped into my brain. I drew it out and went to bed. Then the next day I worked on making it!

Here is my first block!

I really wanted ribbon and a bow on my Christmas present block and I wanted the bow to be in the center of the block. I couldn’t think of an easy way to make it work, but then I thought of a star! I really think it works! Plus, how cute is that house fussy cut in the center of the star!?

If you like this block here are the cuts you need.

  • 4 – 5″ squares
  • 4 – 2.5″ x 5″ rectangles
  • 1 – 2.5″ squares
  • 8 – 1.5″ squares

This block is so easy to make. The hardest part of construction it is the stitch and flip star points. I do have a full video tutorial on YouTube channel. You will find it linked at the bottom of this page.

One block just isn’t enough so I decided to make four blocks and turn it into a wall hanging.

At first I thought I would finish it with sashing and cornerstones.

Then I decided that I could probably turn those cornerstones into little Christmas presents.

How cute are they!? I really love the tiny presents!

I am going to add another thin border of the black fabric and then a wider border of red fabric to really finish off this quilt. Do you have any other color suggestions for the second border?

If you would like to make this four block quilt here is what you need:

For the four blocks

  • 16 – 5″ squares
  • 16 – 2.5″ x 5″ rectangles
  • 4 – 2.5″ squares
  • 8 – 1.5″ squares
  • 8 – 1.5″ x 11.5″ rectangles
  • 8 – 1.5″ x 13.5″ rectangles

For just sashing and cornerstones

  • 9 – 2.5″ squares
  • 12 – 2.5″ x 13.5″ rectangles

Cornerstones into presents

  • 18 – 1.5″ squares
  • 2 – 1.5″ x 13.5″ rectangles
  • 3 – 1.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles

The quilt I made finishes at about 32″ x 33″.

If you would like to download a layout for this quilt top I have two available. One is a outline that can be colored and another is already colored to show the layout.

The first download is the Color Version.

The second download is the Outline Version.

Charming Star

The Christmas Present Quilt can easily be made into a non Christmas quilt.

To make this quilt you will need:

  • 42 – 5″ squares (one charm pack)
  • 71 – 2.5″ x 5″ rectangles
  • 30 – 2.5″ squares
  • 240 – 1.5″ squares

When making this quilt the sashing rectangles will utilize the stitch and flip method. Take note that some of the rectangles you will stitch and flip on both sides but the outside rectangles will only have the stitch and flip on one side. Prep the rectangles as follows:

  • 49 – both sides stitch and flip
  • 22 – one side with stitch and flip

Just as with the Christmas present quilt I have two pdf print outs available. The first print out is a full color version of this quilt and the second is an outline that can be colored and marked.

I walk through all of the steps for making these quilts in the following Youtube Video:
