October Beginner Friendly Quilt Along

There is just something about Fall and the end of the year that motivates me to get a lot of sewing, quilting, and projects finished. Maybe it’s the mood boost from the weather finally not being blazing hot here in Texas? Maybe it’s just the feeling of wanting to wrap up another year with a list of accomplishments? Whatever it is, I got inspired to try hosting my very first quilt along. I am so incredibly excited about it and I hope you decide to join me!

So, this quilt along will take place on my YouTube channel in video format. The quilt will be based around two blocks, a nine patch block and a snowball block. The quilt along will be broken into four week segments. In week one I will cover sewing the 9 patch block. In week two I will cover the snowball block. In week three I will cover bringing all the blocks together into the quilt top. Then in the final week I will discuss basting the quilt, quilting and binding. I know the last week will be a lot in one video. However, I know a lot of quilters have their own way of tackling finishing a quilt so it will mainly be touching on how I like to finish a quilt to give ideas.

The 9 patch with a twist quilt will finish at about 54″x66″.

Fabric Requirements:

1 Jelly roll (40 Strips plus 3) please note, I have been able to complete this quilt with just the 40 strips, however, if you don’t feel comfortable cutting accurately you will feel more relaxed with the 3 extra. If you would prefer using yardage instead of a jelly roll you will need about 3 yards of patterned fabric or 12-15 fat quarters.

2 yards of background fabric

Here is a Mock Up I made of the finished quilt.

If you would like to download a blank layout, to color and plan out your quilt, here is a downloadable PDF!

I hope you join me for this fun beginner friendly Quilt Along!
