A Touch of Quilting

I love to quilt. Right now I am turning out quilts way too quickly and I am running out of places to display them all. I still want to sew and create new things so I decided to try something new.

I saw some cute wrap skirt patterns on Etsy and decided to try this one HERE. The shop is Daydream Patterns Shop and the pattern is definitely a beginner pattern just as marked. It was really easy to follow.

Starting

To begin this pattern I pieced a pattern for the area on the skirt that I wanted to quilt.

Once I got my design ready I had to tape the pattern together. It was really time consuming but very easy. I am not going to share photos of the layout because I want to preserve the pattern artist’s work.

I ended up having enough space on the quilt area to cut out two of the corner panels. So I went ahead and cut out two so I could make two skirts.

Once I cut out the quilt area I pinned them to some fabric to quilt it. I didn’t want all of the seams to show even if they were on the inside of the skirt.

I will say that at this step I wish I did the quilting before I cut the pieces. I think it would have been a little easier.

Piecing the front panel of the skirt

For the top panel of the skirt I pieced together some fabric rather than using one solid piece of fabric. I wanted to try to tie together the top panel to the quilted area… at least a little bit.

The middle panel I used jean material to tie in with the rest of the skirt.

My seams

I want to share that I decided to use french seams on this project since I don’t have a serger.

First I sewed a 1/4″ seam with wrong sides together. This felt so weird! It took a lot of mental power!

Then gently fold right sides together and press.

Then I sewed 1/2″ seam.

note: (Check the measurements because you may need to adjust your pattern size if you use this method)

Now you have a nice hidden seam. I wont have to worry about fraying.

Finishing

To finish the skirt I finished all the edges, placed a snap, and added a tie ribbon.

Instructions for all finishing steps are provided in the pattern.

This was a really fun project and I highly recommend Daydreams Patterns Shop on Etsy. Her pattern instructions are very detailed and I found this skirt to be a breeze to put together.

Bye for now.
