Today we will be finishing up the quilt top! First we will sew the blocks together into another large 9 patch and then add a fun border.
Full disclosure. I fully intended to take photos along the way… but then I didn’t. I wanted to add a bunch of photos of all of the steps here.
I still will try my best to write up the steps, but I am a very visual person, so, without photos I may struggle a bit here.
As with the previous two blocks in this quilt along there is still a tutorial video, so, hopefully that helps!
Cutting

Sew the quilt top together
Sew the quilt top together by sewing the 9 patch blocks and the house blocks together creating three rows.
The top row will have a house block, then a 9 patch block, and then a house block.
The middle row will have a 9 patch block, then a house block, and then a 9 patch block.
The last row will have a house block, then a 9 patch block, and then a house block.
Once you have all of the blocks sewn together into rows you will then sew the rows together.
Press all seams as you go.
Sewing the border
Prep your 9 patch corners
Lay your 2″ squares out in the following layout:
light, dark, light
dark, light, dark
light, dark, light
Sew each square together to create three rows. Press seams toward the dark square and then sew the rows together.
Make four 9 patch blocks.
Prep your border strips
Sew a half strip to each of your longer 2″x WOF strip. Press the seams.
You should now have 8 dark border fabric strips and 4 light border fabric strips that have a WOF strip with a half strip sewn to it.
Sew the strips together creating four strip sets that have a dark fabric, light fabric, and then a dark fabric. Press the seams.
Now you will need to measure your quilt. My quilt measured 54.5″ x 54.5″.
Trim your long border strip sets to size. For my quilt I trimmed them to 54.5″. You will cut yours to the exact size of your quilt so far.
Sew a trimmed strip set onto each side of the quilt. Press seams.
Take the last two strip sets and sew a nine patch block onto each side. Press the seams.
Now take the strips sets with the 9 patch on each side and sew one to the top and bottom of the quilt.
Press the seams.
The quilt top is now finished!
